1.1 Undergraduate Admissions
Candidates who are not citizens of India (by birth or naturalized) shall be considered as foreign nationals.
Undergraduate admissions are conducted exclusively through the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE).International candidates can find relevant information about appearing for the exam

International students from partner institutions may participate in semester-long or short-term exchange programs at the institute through academic collaborations established under institutional Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs).

International students may apply for short-term research internships under faculty supervision. Applications are usually made directly to a faculty member or through institutional collaborations.
International students are required to:
- Obtain an appropriate Indian Student Visa prior to arrival in India
- Register with the Foreigners Regional Registration Office (FRRO) within the stipulated time
- Relevant FRRO forms and guidelines are available on the official FRRO portal
All international students intending to pursue higher education in India are required to complete their registration on the Study in India (SII) portal. This registration is mandatory and is directly linked to the issuance of a student visa.
Important:
Visa issuance, extension, and FRRO registration are governed solely by the Government of India. IIT (BHU) Varanasi does not have jurisdiction over immigration decisions. Compliance with visa and FRRO regulations is the sole responsibility of the student.
The nearest airport is Lal Bahadur Shastri International Airport in Varanasi, which is located about 30 km from the campus.
International students are advised to plan their arrival in India in coordination with the Office of International Relations. Upon arrival:
- Students must report to the Office of International Relations for initial onboarding
- Institute orientation and academic coordination will be facilitated
- Students must complete all immigration and registration formalities as mandated
5.1 Accommodation
Hostel and residential facilities are allotted as per availability and institute norms.

For research scholars, accommodation may also be available under the Gurudev Rabindranath Tagore Apartments (GRTA). Further details regarding GRTA can be found on the GTAC webpage.

5.2 Student Support
Campus life at Indian Institute of Technology (BHU) Varanasi is vibrant and engaging, offering students numerous opportunities beyond academics. The institute hosts over 25 technical, cultural, and sports clubs and societies, where students participate in competitions, workshops, festivals, and recreational activities. Located within the larger campus of Banaras Hindu University in Varanasi, students also benefit from extensive sports facilities and cultural spaces, creating a dynamic and well-rounded campus experience. International student welfare and coordination on campus are supported through the office of the Associate Dean of Student Affairs (ADoSA).

5.3 Health Insurance and Medical Facilities
All international students are required to have valid health insurance covering the entire duration of their stay in India. Students may opt for insurance provided under the Study in India framework or any other policy compliant with Government of India norms.
IIT (BHU) Varanasi provides access to:
- Institute Health Centre services
- Institute Health Centre services
Students are responsible for medical expenses not covered under insurance.
5.4 Duration of Stay and Extension
The duration of stay for inbound students is governed by:
- Approved academic programme
- Visa validity
- Institute approval
Any request for extension must be submitted well in advance through the Office of International Relations, along with necessary academic and immigration documentation. Approval is subject to institute and statutory authority regulations.
Upon completion of the approved programme, international students are required to:
- Obtain clearance from host department.
- Complete hostel and library clearance.
- Inform Office of International Relations before departure.
Exit formalities must comply with visa and FRRO requirements
