IIT (BHU) Varanasi has developed a research and innovation friendly environment supported through state of the art infrastructure at Department/School level, as well as advanced Central Instrumentation Facility and Precision Engineering Hub. The Institute strongly encourages industry-academia partnership and international collaboration of mutual interests. Research activities at IIT (BHU) Varanasi are aligned with the national mission of Swachh Bharat, Ayushman Bharat, Make in India, Digital India, Atal Innovation Mission etc. These challenges are best served by multi-disciplinary research using concepts of Science, Engineering and Technology.

The Institute has proven expertise in the areas of steel, advanced materials, microwave technology, electrical and electronic devices, artificial intelligence, composite materials, novel reactor design, new drugs, and sensors/biosensors. The Institute has identified thrust areas of Research in Green and Clean Energy, Hydrogen Energy, Environment and Water, Healthcare, Bioengineering, Biomedical Devices, Artificial Intelligence, Precision Engineering, Material Science and Defense. The Research and Development outcome of the Institute has growing impact in recent years under the visionary leadership of the Institute Director. We thank government agencies and industry partners for relying on our research competence.

The Research and Development (R&D) office plays an important role in the Institute's reputation, ranking and forming relationships with government and private funding agencies. The office also facilitates international collaborations with educational Institutions and Industries. As Dean (R&D) of the Institute, I am sensitive to my role and responsibilities. I give my best effort for continuous improvement, through participation of all faculty members and Heads/Coordinators of Departments/Schools, to foster the research attitude and innovation process. The office of Dean (R&D) will not leave any stone unturned to meet expectations of the Institute and all stakeholders. We, as team IIT (BHU) Varanasi, are committed to contribute towards shaping India as a knowledge and innovation based economy.
