MENTAL HEALTH SUPPORT
IIT (BHU) Varanasi regularly updates a list of empanelled hospitals, some of which provide comprehensive sexual and reproductive health care services, including information and education initiatives. Additionally, these hospitals offer outpatient and inpatient medical facilities to employees and pensioners of the institute on a cashless basis, following the existing Central Government Health Scheme (CGHS) norms.
IIT (BHU) offers Student/Staff counselling service in the institute to support them with the name “SAKHA”.
The Student Counselling Services, IIT(BHU), Varanasi, is an institute-level faculty-student body consisting of a team of 10 faculty members and 140+ students. It aims towards the holistic development of students as a SAKHA (Friend in Campus) by conducting guest talks, activities, and counselling sessions under various councils related to wellness, academics, career, skills, and international exchange. It has conducted 200+ sessions and 3000+ counselling sessions, benefitting over 8000 students on campus. SCs has dedicated committees of faculty members.
SCS Councils
1. Wellness Council: It aims to ensure the physical, mental, and emotional well-being of students. It works in collaboration with the on-campus counsellor and the institute wellness partner. It has conducted 3000+ individual and 20+ group counselling sessions helping 3000+ students.
2. Academics Council: It endeavours to help students perform well academically by assisting them with study tips, accessible study materials, and guidance through remedial classes. It also aims to create awareness regarding research programs in India and competitive exams such as CAT, GATE, TOEFL etc.
3. Career Council: It aims to create awareness about different career paths and facilitate students with career selection, preparation, resources and mock interviews. It leads the flagship initiatives like Encore, Acing Internships and Acing Placements, ensuring equal and accessible guidance to every student.
4. Skill Development Council: It aims to equip students with the necessary hard and soft skills that are required for different career opportunities. It helps students in their personality development by enabling them to explore their hobbies and interests. It majorly focuses on communication and leadership skills, and hard skills such as coding, designing, writing etc.
5. International Exchange Council: It aspires to establish international exchange programs in IIT (BHU) and facilitate students who aspire to do foreign internships in research and other domains by providing them with the necessary guidance and Resources.

Further, Institute has also empanelled following Hospitals on terms of treatment mentioned against each Hospital on cash payment basis for one year (i.e. up to 10.04.2026), to extend medical facilities to Institute serving/ retired employees and their dependents. The beneficiaries will be required to pay for the services availed at the below mentioned Hospitals as per terms of treatment, however the reimbursement shall be as per CGHS rate & rule, the excess amount, if any, shall be borne by the beneficiary only. The Institute shall not be liable to reimburse the amount incurred on such services/ items which are non-reimbursable as per CGHS norms. Furthermore, referral & assessment within of six months from concerned department of S.S. Hospital, BHU shall be mandatory for reimbursement of Travelling Allowance for visiting the below mentioned Hospitals.
