Surya Pal Singh was born in Mendia, Mirzapur, Uttar Pradesh, India on January 12, 1951. He obtained his B.Sc. degree in 1971, B.Tech., M.Tech. (I Rank) and Ph.D. degrees in Electronics Engineering in 1976, 1979 and 1989 respectively, from BHU, Varanasi, India.
He joined the Department of Electronics Engineering, IT, BHU (now IIT (BHU)), Varanasi as a lecturer in 1980, and superannuated on January 31, 2016 as Professor (HAG) from there. He is presently re-employed as Institute Professor in the same Department of IIT (BHU), Varanasi.  He remained Coordinator of CAS funded by UGC during 2005–2011, and HOD of the Department of Electronics Engineering, IIT (BHU), Varanasi during 2010–2013. His research accomplishments encompass topics in Bioelectromagnetics/Microwave Antennas/ Measurements /Telemedicine. He has directed sponsored projects on Antennas funded by AICTE and DRDO. Fifteen (15) students have been awarded Ph.D. degree under his supervision/ co-supervision, and two (02) students are currently working towards Ph.D. under his co-supervision. He has more than 200 scientific publications in peer-reviewed international/national journals and conference proceedings to his credit.
Prof. Singh is a Life Senior Member of IEEE and Life Fellow of IETE (India). He has joined Editorial Board of the International Journal of RF and Microwave Computer-aided Engineering (Wiley Publ.) as a member starting from January 2018.   He has reviewed Hayt and Buck’s book on Engineering Electromagnetics and manuscripts for many peer-reviewed journals including IEEE Journals.
