Dr. Pradip Kumar Roy
About me:
Dr. Pradip Kumar Roy was born in July 1980 in the Burdwan district of West Bengal. He has completed his B.Tech. & Ph.D. in Ceramic Engineering from N.I.T. - Rourkela in 2003 & 2009, respectively. He was associated with Crompton Greaves Ltd., Mumbai, for six years as a Deputy Manager of R&D while leaving. He did his MBA in operations from United Business Institutes, Brussels, Belgium, during his industrial period. He started teaching career at B.I.T.- Mesra, Ranchi, in 2012. He joined IIT (BHU) in 2014 as an Assistant Professor. Presently, Dr. Roy is working as an Associate Professor in the Department of Ceramic Engineering, IIT (BHU). Current research interests are in the fields of Magnetic, Ferroelectric, & Piezoelectric Materials, Nano Materials, High-Temperature Ceramics, and Waste Management. He has published 67 research papers in International Journals, filed 31 (Granted 14) Indian Patents, and presented 68 research papers at National/International Conferences. He is the reviewer of more than 80 International/National Journals and Conferences. He is a Certified Chartered Engineer (CEng) by the British Council, UK. He is also a Fellow of the Institution of Engineers (IEI) (India) and the Institution of Electronics & Telecommunication Engineers (IETE).
Research:
Our major research focus is on the synthesis, characterization, and application of magnetic and piezoelectric materials. We have engaged in research on rare-earth-free magnetic materials, magnetic properties of nanoscale materials, & size and shape-dependent properties of nanoscale materials. Some part of our research is associated with the synthesis and characterization of lead-free piezoelectric & ferrite-based composite materials for sensor applications. We are also working on low-temperature co-fired ceramics for EMI shielding/absorber materials and piezoelectric transducers. Recently, we have started to work on the fabrication of sustainable ceramics derived from solid wastes. The major attention is on solid waste to value-added ceramics conversion, which not only solves the disposal problems but also conserves natural resources. We have developed low-cost synthetic wollastonite, ceramic board, wall tiles, building bricks, insulation refractory, castables, mullite foam, and high-temperature ceramic binders by using different wastes like fly ash, rice-husk ash, eggshell, seashell, refractory grog, blast furnace slag, river silt, etc.

- Development of lead-free piezoelectric materials with high piezoelectric co-efficient for sensor and actuator applications.
- Development of modified magneto-dielectric composites for high-frequency antenna applications.
- Development of modified magnetic materials for catalysts, hyperthermia, wastewater treatment, dye-degradation, and microwave absorber applications.
- Development of low-temperature co-fired ceramics for EMI shielding/absorber materials and piezoelectric transducers.
- Development of high-strength rare-earth free permanent magnet for rotating machines applications.
- Development of doped BiFeO3 multiferroic compound for sensor applications.
- Development of high gradient (700 V/mm) varistor block for 1200 kV surge arrestor applications.
- Development of nano-dielectrics for electrical transformer applications.
- Development of Zno-based doped TCCO for display applications.
- Development of core-shell nanostructured materials with nano ferrite & waste-derived nano-silica for dual action next-generation anticancer applications.
