Refractories & High Temperature Ceramics

The refractory is crucial role in meeting the demands of India's manufacturing ambitions .India's steel industry consumes 75% of the country refractory output. The current capacity utilization of the industry is not more than 60 per cent. The global refractories market is projected to reach 36.17 billion by 2022, at a CAGR of 3.89% between 2017 and 2022. The global refractory material market size was estimated at  28.45 billion in 2023 and is predicted to hit around 43.97 billion by 2033 and is poised to grow at a compound annual growth rate of 4.45% during the forecast period 2024 to 2033.

The Department of Ceramic Engineering is mainly focusing on the following topics:

  • Refractories & High temperature ceramics
  • Manufacturing, properties and brief application of shaped and unshaped refractories
  • Synthesis and characterizations of non-oxide refractories
  • Sintering, microstructure and phase diagram into refractory technology
