About

The Indian Institute of Technology (Banaras Hindu University), Varanasi library system consists of the Shreenivas Deshpande Library and five departmental libraries, which collectively support the teaching, research, and extension programs of the institute. All students, faculty members, and employees of the institute are entitled to make use of the library facilities by taking library membership; the library also provides membership facilities to the corporate body and individual scholars. The library offers various facilities to the users like collaboration learning space, Document delivery service, Remote Access facility, e-library, Modern reading room, etc. The library frequently organizes various programs/workshops for the faculty and research scholars.

The library, besides having an excellent print collection of over 1,42,000 volumes of books, journals, theses, reports, standards, and pamphlets, also provides access to over 10,000 electronic journals and more than 3500 (text & reference books) of electronic books and databases in science, engineering, and technology. Library timing is 08:00 AM (morning) to 01.00 AM (night), including Saturday, Sunday and arranges to open late-night during mid-semester and semester exams.

Hours

Weekdays:

The Library is open from 09:30 AM to 07.30 PM (Monday to Friday).

Reading halls are open from 08:00 AM (morning) to 01:00 AM (midnight) all days.

Saturday and Government Holidays: 09:30 AM to 6:00 PM

Closed Days: The Library will remain closed on the following days:-
Republic Day, Independence Day, Mahatma Gandhi Birthday, Holi, Deepawali, Dussehra

Documents Circulation: Monday to Friday 09:45 AM - 7:15 PM and Saturday 9:45 AM to 05:45 PM

Collections

The library has a rich collection of books on engineering, Science & Technology, and Humanities and Social Sciences. The library also has a very good collection of the bound volume of old (Since 1918), periodicals, codes, and standards. Apart from these Library has access to more than 10000 e-journals, Standards, Databases, and e-books.
