   Dr. Arup Kumar Mandal
has earned his Ph.D. degrees from Indian Institute of Technology(BHU),Varanasi in 2017. He has been working as Senior Technical Officer in Department of Metallurgical Engineering, IIT(BHU), Varanasi since August, 2014 after getting promoted from Technical Officer (June,2012) and Foreman-Melting (August, 2009).

  Dr. Mandal has worked in various reputed iron and steel industries like TATA Metaliks, Sree Metaliks, and KIC Metaliks and served as Jounior engineer to Assistant Manager level from August 2000 to July 2009.
    Dr. Mandal has published 25 papers in various peer reviewed international journals and conference proceedings. He has authored a book chapter titled “Smelting Reduction of Bottom Ash in Presence of Liquid Steel Bath for Recovery of Aluminium”
in Book Advances in Molten Slags, Fluxes, and Salts published by the John Wiley & Sons, Inc, USA in 2016.

     He is the reviewer of various journals like Waste Management and Research, Plasma Science and Technology, Mineral Processing and extractive metallurgy review etc.

   His present research interests include the Agglomeration, DRI, Smelting reduction, Plasma technology for metallurgical use, Metallurgical waste recycling.etc.
Dr. Mandal is the recipient of the 
‘Outstanding Scientist award’ in 88th International Research Awards on Engineering, Science and Management by International Organization of Scientific Research and Development; the ‘Outstanding Scientist' for the contribution and achievement in the field of Metallurgical Engineering by Centre for Advanced Research and Design, Venus International Foundation in 2018; and the Best employee award by TATA group in the year of 2007. He delivered key note lecture in ETEM 2017 seminar organised by MSU, Baroda in April 2017 and in ASIA Steel 2018 seminal organised by TATA Steel and IIM, Kolkata in February 2018.

   Dr. Mandal is the life member of several professional bodies like, Indian Institute of Metals, Indian Institute of Mineral Engineers, The Institution of Engineers and Indian Society for Technical Education etc.
