Welcome to IIT(BHU), Varanasi!
IIT(BHU), Varanasi is an institution in transition. Such a transition provides opportunities not otherwise available to other institutions. It has a brand new academic curriculum which weaves research and innovation with course work. It provides opportunities to students to take up project work at various stages of the undergraduate program. The flexibility so provided in the curriculum can be used by the keen learner to his/her advantage.
This year a special event is planned for you, so as to make you at ease with the campus stay, learn the ethos of the place and gear up yourself for professional education. It is a three-week Induction Programme right at the beginning of the Semester, from July 27th. You will play games, learn a creative arts skill (painting, music, dance, clay modeling etc.), have Human Values group discussions, learn about your department and the institute, visit to the city, etc. Regular classes will start after three weeks.
IIT(BHU), Varanasi provides an active extra-curricular life with games & sports, culture, science & technology and literature & media. We benefit from the city of Varanasi which is the cultural hub of this region. There are many social and spiritual activities as well, in which students can participate.
The institution shares the ambience of a University. As a result, there are challenges as well as opportunities. The challenges involve dealing with different types of people and groups. These prepare us to face challenges of society in future. In terms of opportunities, location inside the university campus provides for easy access to many different academic disciplines. For example, some courses in Humanities, Social Science and Creative Practices as part of the IIT(BHU), Varanasi academic curriculum will be taught by faculty members from BHU. The diversity of experience that can be gained here is simply uncomparable.
Pandit Madan Mohan Malaviya, the founder of the University, had a vision to create a combination of old and the new, by taking the best of both. That vision remains to be realized in the country today. He was also clear that it could be done only by men and women of character. To move towards that vision, IIT(BHU), Varanasi has put several elements in place. An important first step is the Human Values course in the first semester during the induction programme. The course is conducted through discussions in small groups, each with a faculty mentor, on issues of life related to self, family, society and nature.
Join here only if you are bold! Be a part of a great institution of the past which is remaking itself, and in the process get transformed yourself!
